I started agility about fifteen years ago, taking our family Sheltie to a beginners class for fun. I didn’t really get into agility training & competing until I moved to Somerset in 2009, but I've been addicted ever since!
I competed at Champ level performance & Steeplechase UKA, Grade 4 Kennel Club and gained a bronze agility warrant with my Sheltie Grace before retiring her. We also achieved our Bronze & Silver Kennel Club Good Citizens Awards. I have been working hard training my young Sheltie, Foxy Roxy and we have just started competing together. We have a long way to go but she is showing great potential already- if I can keep up with her!
Agility has been great for boosting my confidence and keeping me fit. I have made so many friends and learnt lots of different skills through training, competition & instructing.

Mary Honour, Instructor
I have been involved in agility for 9 years. Originally, I wanted to do something that my Golden retriever and I could do together. It started off as a fun thing but now I have been competing for at least 6 years firstly with him and now with my 7 year old rescue dog. My proudest achievement to date was when my dogs came first and second in a jumping competition.
I decided to offer to instruct and did an instructor course as well as still continuing to develop my skills and knowledge with regular weekly training with my dogs. I really enjoy taking the beginners’ group as it’s great to see the progress made by both dogs and owners working together.
My top tip is to keep positive and keep it fun. The dogs love it and so will you!
Gemma Jones, Instructor
I joined the club in 2016, when I was 11 and I started instructing over the summer of 2021. I have two Labradors; Misty was my first agility dog who is now in retirement. I now train Twm, he is a rescue dog who I have had to work hard to build his confidence and he is now progressing really well with his agility training. I did some competing with Misty before her retirement but I mainly just do agility for fun with Twm for now. I am currently at college doing a National Diploma in Animal Management and work part time as a Kennel assistant at a local boarding Kennels. I hope to have a canine related career in the future. |
